Foreigners Registration


Foreigners should submit their applications along with the registration forms with full details in person.

Registration is not required for the visas valid upto 180 days. Similarly prior permission for leaving the country is not required if the visa is valid upto 180 days. However this rule does not apply to Pak Nationals and Afghan Nationals.

Foreigners having a visa for more than 180 days should get themselves registered within (14) days of their arrival, whereas Pak- nationals should report their arrival within 24 hours and all Afghan nationals are required to register themselves within (7) days of arrival in India irrespective of their visa validity, before FRO concerned.

Extension of visa beyond 180 days will require registration.

Children below 16 years of age are exempted from registration with foreigner’s registration officer. However, they are required to obtain residential permit and are not exempted from this requirement for getting extension of stay.

All application forms are made available free of cost at City Special Branch located in the premises of the office of The Commissioner of Police, Infantry Road, Bangalore City.

Foreigners have special endorsements [each visit six months/ each visit shall not exceed 180 days] in their visas do not require registration and departure clearance; but registration and leave India permission are required, if their stay exceeds 180 days or six months.

Adults should submit [5] photographs and minors [3] photographs.

Proof of address in shape of ration card, telephone bill, electricity bill, etc. should be submitted.

Two sets of passport and visa copies should be enclosed.

Guardians should submit the undertaking letter for dependent foreigners.

Foreign students coming on student visa should submit bonafide study certificate of a recognized institution along with HIV test certificate, bank account statement and rental deed.

Foreigners coming on business visa should submit the RBI permission.

Foreigners coming on employment visa should submit the employment agreement papers/ undertaking of the employer or company.

A PENAL fee of US $ 30[or equivalent amount in Indian rupees] has to be paid by foreigners overstaying in India or for not registering with the Registration Officer within the stipulated period and for grant of Restricted/ Protected area permits.
