                                                          R.SRI KUMAR

Welcome to the new website of the Karnataka Police (www.ksp.gov.in ). Our old website (www.karnatakastatepolice.org ) carries a lot of information about our department, and has been online for some years now; yet it did not fully tap the potential of the internet to bring transparency into the operations of the police, and build stronger ties between the public and the department.

Our new initiative, in that context, is a bold attempt for policing in India, and once again aims to keep Karnataka at the cutting-edge in the use of technology. On behalf of the entire state police force, I pledge today to help bring us closer to you using all available technology to give you the easiest of access to information that matters most to you. In a few months, we hope to have a fully functional, dynamic website which provides you all the latest details and status updates on any case whose progress you are interested in.

In addition, all you need to know about your passport verification application, latest emergency and disaster management efforts, security arrangements for major events etc will be available to you at the click of a mouse.

There may of course be occasions when no movement is seen on your complaints: that is when you can contact the authorities - online - to get matters expedited.

Though the new website has an official ring about it, being on the gov.in domain, we hope to differentiate ourselves from most other government websites, by giving you updated and relevant information, navigable in a user-friendly way. In addition to being current, every fortnight after the launch, there will be at least one new feature giving the website an added new dimension. The idea is to make the police work transparent, and to make the department responsive to your needs at all times.

The launch of this website is only one element of our road-map for effecting improvement in policing in Karnataka in the coming months.

My personal charter for the duration of the responsibility as chief of the force is as under:

1.      Launch of new website www.ksp.gov.in in addition to removing all the glitches in the old site www.karnatakastatepolice.org

2.      Dissemination of all important information to those interested through the web sites – e.g. newspersons can get RSS feed of updates. The aim is to bring in greater transparency and uphold the citizens' Right to Information.

3.      Activating an online complaint receipt and registration, as well as status updates on investigation, along with a method of verification and checks to prevent mischievous complaints

4.      Selected reshuffle of police officials to make policing professional and people friendly

5.      Setting up an annual workplan for all officers and personnel

6.      Getting extra resources from the Government for modernising the police force. The current annual police expenditure is Rs 1600 crores, which is 80 paise per capita. The target is to make it at least Re 1 per capita.

7.      Completing the draft of a new Karnataka Police Act and seeking opinions on it through wide circulation and open public debate

8.      Installing a video surveillance and security system for the Vidhana Soudha, and opening new police stations for catering to the users of the new International Airport at Devanahalli

9.      Reviewing and revamping the wings dealing with traffic, terrorism and the anti-hooch enforcement

10.     Improving intelligence gathering mechanisms

At the end of each month, this site will present the status of these initiatives and list the new ones for the succeeding month. You can contribute to its growth and its utility by giving useful suggestions on content, technical and other features. Do help us to expand police-community relations to make policing more effective and people-friendly.

Start thinking now and let us have your suggestions right away.

Have a safe, secure and nice day!
