Given the spread of the organization such as the Karnataka State Police, dependency on the technology to solve major crimes, information requirement for analysis and strategic decision making has grown from compiling information on the paper and filing into physical files to the present day storing of information in the digital format. The task of searching the required information from various offices distributed across the network, files, hard disks, compact disk is even more daunting and counter-productive in terms of the investment of time, manpower and other resources.

Police IT project aims at providing an end to end solution to all police requirements. Police IT was conceived with a view to provide an Enterprise Level Solution to the department. Government accorded sanction for procuring hardware, developing software and to providing connectivity. M/s Wipro Ltd. was awarded with the contract for developing a comprehensive software for the department. The police leaders had the vision to imagine of a comprehensive software application which would cover from Traffic module to MIS and from Crime to Control Room module Initiated in the year 2004, it is in its final stages of completion. In its conceptualization, creation and roll out, it would have a pioneering impact in the way police in India would go digital in the days to come.

The successful completion of this project would take the police to much higher level of efficiency, near total transparency, all mechanical work would become redundant, more human resources would be available for core tasks, better investigation, qualitative change in planning, split second communication, perfect documentation/retrieval, no alibi as the application is role based, need based passage of information on the Website/press/individuals, tracking of incidents/facts/details would be flawless etc.  All reports would automatically get created and official documentation/messaging/meetings/training etc., would move on to the digital mode.
